Hamlet – June 16, 2010

It took a long time to decide that the background stage would be black. But I think we were right because the black background is non-distracting, and makes the stage seem a lot bigger than it actually is. And above all, it gave us the opportunity to add a new dimension to the costumes colors. Each character’s costume has a color that matches the colors of other characters in the play. For example, Hamlet’s clothes were blue and white like those of Horatio, Ophelia or the Ghost himself; Laertes and his father, Polonius, share green; Gertrude and Claudius wear golden costumes; Lords and Ladies wear black and red…

All the costumes were designed by Alicia Cortes and brilliantly made by Susana Martin. Susana many thanks!!
