Kia Ora

Kia Ora

Captains’ Log. Stardate: 2011.40

This week at San Cristobal, we are celebrating a New Zealand Culture Week. Amelia Farras-Knowles, a terrific teaching assistant from “Aotearoa“, is helping us to discover more about her great country and the rich heritage of the Maori culture. Tino Rangatira Tanga, Moko or Hongi have become common words for everyone.

In this video you can see Amelia saying Kia Ora, hello in Maori, to my sixth graders:

This morning we had the opportunity to create, with cardboard, our own Maori artwork, including korus, Hei Mataus and manaias. It was a great experience and we all had a lot of fun:

Thank you Amelia for your fantastic work and all your enthusiasm.

So say we all!!
